Introduction To Mental Health

This class provides an introduction to mental health awareness, helping participants better understand common mental health definitions and conditions. Participants will explore the impact of stigma on individuals, families, and communities. The course will review key risk factors and warning signs associated with mental health challenges, enabling participants to recognize when someone may need support.

Attendees will learn about available treatment options, what to expect during treatment, and how recovery can look different for each individual. The class will also cover practical strategies for finding help for yourself or others, including understanding when and how to access community resources and professional support.

Special attention will be given to crisis intervention resources, including how the Crisis Hotline works and when it should be used. Finally, participants will learn self-care practices and coping techniques that can help promote emotional well-being, build resilience, and support overall mental health.

Understanding Depression

This introductory class provides a basic overview of depression, a common mental health condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Participants will learn what depression is, how it differs from normal feelings of sadness, and some of the emotional, physical, and behavioral symptoms that can occur. The class will also explore common causes and risk factors, discuss available treatment options, and address common myths and misconceptions. Designed for beginners, this session aims to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and help participants better understand depression in themselves, their loved ones, and their communities. No prior knowledge is required.


Understanding Anxiety

This introductory class provides a basic understanding of anxiety, one of the most common mental health concerns. Participants will learn what anxiety is, how it affects the mind and body, and the difference between normal stress and anxiety disorders. The class will cover common signs and symptoms, potential causes and triggers, and the impact anxiety can have on daily life. Participants will also be introduced to healthy coping strategies, treatment options, and ways to support themselves and others. Designed for beginners, this class promotes awareness, reduces stigma, and provides practical knowledge for recognizing and understanding anxiety.
